around the turn of the century lived at the today's "Zeughausplatz" number. 10 the family Leissner. They operated a small agriculture. Father Leissner was many years mayor in the town Saalborn and also short time deputy in Berka. Son Herrmann was a "studying", one said after to it "he would write all lectures of the parson in the church with in shorthand". In addition, Hermann was much animal dear. Like that it had more in a severe winter in the goat stable, that be a board shed was, set up probably a small furnace, in order to heat at the night for the goats. The neighbours, the smoke saw and entitled a fire feared, alarmed the fire-brigade. After these had discovered the goat stable heating, "Maenne" received a caution and the reference to remove the furnace immediately. Few days later again one controlled for safety's sake. There Leissner were with his goats in the stableand with an old coat had hang over the shoulders and bleat merrily against the fire mens.

If "Maenne" could be looked from now on on the road, the children sang: "live lucky, live gladly, like Leissner Maenne his Heppe in Paletot".

A fire in the town Saalborn on the12.02.1929 and Fire mens Berkaer was the first of the foreign fire-brigades how arrived( right behind the Saalborner fire mens and began with the fire-fighting operationses, some Saalboerner called: " Macht eich hem ihr Berkschen, das ist unser Feier."Joke( like go home that is our celebration , smile)

In the postwar years the procurement of clothing and articles of equipment for the firefighters was problematic. Partially still uniforms were from the 30's present, stepping members received put down uniforms of the "Volkspolizei"( special name for the east-germany policy) at that time. Helmets were usually from the former German armed forces. In the year 1955 a common large-scale exercise took place at Meckfeld, where beside the resistance from Bad Berka numerous fire-brigades from the surrounding places participated. The evaluation took place in the hotel to the "Stiefelburg". Here should be promoted a set of "Unterfeuerwehrmaennern" ( its a name of the hierarchy in fire brigade- like under fire man) for their good achievements, probably because of "the round beer", to "Feuerwehrmaennern".( Hierarchy name fire man) However the stars necessary for it were for the shoulder pieces to procure and/or only with difficulty to get or missing. One was however does not shift and the "Hauptfeuerwehr mann"(present main) and Oberfeuerwehrmänner (upper fire-brigade men) had each two stars to deliver. Like that the transport and the "deletion of the thirst" were secured.

At the first whitsun day. 1959 the voluntary fire-brigade Bad Berka must turn out to a dramatic rescue action. After a "Wasserhose" ( big waterstorm) had come down over the city, it came to extensive inundations also at the Goethe well. A visitor to the health resort had fled itself before the rain masses under the wells, had to climb however in view of constantly the more highly rising water masses first up the well and then up to the "nixe".( Statue of a water women)
